Patterdale ( Black Fell ) Hunting Terriers
Is the Patterdale  really suitable for you?

If you are looking for a docile pet suited for apartment life in a urban setting, with the only exercise an occasional stroll in the park, then I
strongly recommend that you consider a breed other than a Patterdale Terrier.

However, if a true working "hunt" terrier is what you are looking for, providing that you have the ability and means to allow these little workers the opportunity to fulfill their insatiable desire to hunt, then no other breed will compare!
About Our Terriers

At BEAR PAW KENNELS, we
take great pride inattempting to preserve the true working ability of our Patterdale Terriers.  Our goal is to maintain the practices of many English Terrier breeders and keep Cyril Breay, Frank Buck, and Brian Nuttall strains of the "Fell" or Patterdale Terrier pure.
Patterdales  are tremendous working terriers capable of going to earth on virtually any furbearing game and often utilized while hunting large game
such as wild boar and bear.  If their size was measured by their heart, there would be no doubt that they would be the largest breed known to man!
A Miner's Story
As told in a book "The Fell Terrier, by D. Brian Plummer.

After hounds had run a fox "to earth", a terrier named "Fury" was released with the remark, "Thee and me's been good pals, but t'times come when we mun part, for if thoo gaas in here ah'll nivver see thee again".  Fury rushes in and a great battle ensues.  The fox refused to bolt, and after a while Fury emerged bitten from ear to ear with half his mask missing,, a deplorable sight.

The dog was dispatched to the nearest farmhouse for treatment.  After three hours of digging into the entrance, the workers found signs of a terrific struggle, blood, hair, some from the fox, some from Fury. But in the corner, piled one on top of the other, were three large foxes!  There was silence amongst the miners for several moments.
